“Your trauma explains you it does not define you.”
My motto resonates personally and has become my mission in helping others through their own healing. It started at the age of 8, when I was accidently placed as the only girl on an all boys baseball team. From that time on, I’ve learned to work hard and not stop achieving my goals–even if I might be alone in achieving them. I was able to complete my master’s degree while undergoing some major personal and family trauma. Ten days after experiencing yet another devastating family trauma, I walked with my graduating class. At my graduation a woman handed me some cords to wear. I asked the woman what they were for and started crying when she was told me they were honor cords. I was overwhelmed to know that through everything I had gone through to obtain my master’s, not only had I graduated, but I had graduated with honors.
I was the first woman to complete my master’s degree in my family and I’ve dedicated my work and life to empowering others and not allowing setbacks to stop me on me journey. I currently work as a full time counselor in a school and as an adjunct at my university alma mater. I have presented at conferences, assisted in research collaborations and spoken at various public speaking engagements.
I work to help others understand that trauma doesn’t define you. It’s a part of you, but it doesn’t need to define you or your ability to accomplish what you want. I don’t prescribe to one size fits all techniques and I’m constantly scouting the internet, publications and research to find solutions that work for you.
I am excited to share insightful articles, out of the box answers to questions and real world experience to assist you and your family in juggling the many things that life throws your way.
Monday Mental Health…
I’m also excited to share fun lessons every Monday that I use in my work with you! Since I love food and creating with food, I’m always looking for great ways to incorporate that into my work.
