Family Friendly Pride Month Ideas

Family friendly pride month ideas that will help you teach acceptance, love and unity with your children and family!

What Is Pride Month?

June is pride month in the LGBTQ+ community. The federal government also instituted Juneteenth in 2021, which celebrates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. June has become known as the month that encircles the promise, connection and unity among all people. The rainbow has become the symbol for pride month.

Making Pride Month More Family Friendly

I work with younger children and teens and a lot of parents come in with questions during pride month. One question I get asked about is if I know of any family friendly pride activities that happen in my area. Traditionally, pride rallies, parades, and activities can be a little raucous making them a little less family friendly and something that may be a little more inappropriate for families with young kids and preteens.

Helping Those Who Identify as LGBTQ+

Approximately 5.6% of US adults identify as LGBTQ+ (Gallup, 2021) with the majority of adults identifying as bisexual. I see a lot of students who want to support and show love to an LGBTQ+ identifying teacher, family member or friend during pride month but feeling a little frustrated that sometimes activities in their area aren’t inclusive of their age group.

June has become a month of love, inclusivity and hope. Families are embracing the idea of coming together at Pride month activities to celebrate and show love and inclusion to all people. There are plenty of great activities that bring together everyone during Pride month and are family friendly!

Hey! It’s me Traci

I was 38 with three children when I got the news my ex spouse had passed away. I found myself grieving the loss of a spouse although our marriage had ended on less than amicable terms. I found myself moving through a mix of different emotions I didn’t know if it was okay to have. I needed help. Did I join a widows group? Was I a widow? How do you deal with the grief and loss of an ex spouse?
